Thinking about Selen Tatsuki

My Two Cents

In March 2023, I wrote about a former Nijisanji EN talent (liver?) who was terminated. Since I am a small Holostars/vTuber fan blog that very few people know of, at that time, I was still trying to discover the types of blog post content that I should dedicate my writing to on the side. Unfortunately at that time, the termination of Zaion LanZa just happened then, and I thought that this was a good opportunity to write something on the side other than HOLOSTARS.

However, after writing that piece, I stopped following the issue. But moments later, at some dramatuber channel that I stumbled upon, Sayu (Zaion) released a document regarding her experiences with the Nijisanji management. I didn’t pay attention to it, I wasn’t interested in writing a continuation of my previous post, mainly because I was busy and on educational hiatus at that time. There were a lot of mixed reactions, some are still hating on her and others are beginning to “see the light” about the company, so to speak. But for me, I decided to stay neutral and just keep my original post rather than deleting it.

With that out of the way, almost a year later, another Nijisanji EN termination happened again. This time, it’s towards a particular liver who I only follow under that company. You all remember her from TSB and all the awesomeness she showed through everything else other than Apex Legends— Selen Tatsuki.

I won’t be doing a whole blog post of the details about Selen’s termination, but instead, I’ll embed the official (and seirously outrageous) tweet regarding the issue:

I’ll let you readers make your own judgment and thoughts, and I won’t try to convince anyone to change their judgment. Instead, I’ll share what I feel about this entire mess altogether.

My thoughts about Selen

I first heard of Selen, at least her name, from two years ago when the whole Why aren’t hololive/Holostars and Nijisanji EN not collabing with each other? issue still existed. Everyone was hoping for a Selen Tatsuki-Kureiji Ollie collab because both of them are huge Apex enthusiasts back then. Her name was everywhere at that time that a part of me wanted me to get curious about the NijiEN talents. Still, I was closely following Holostars (especially Tempus HQ) back then that I never really had the time to check her (or any NijiEN liver) out.

Sometime later, my (kami)oshi Altare announced a collab with NijiEN’s liver, Alban Knox, for a game of Terraria, for a couple streams. To many of us holoPro fans, we declared this a history in the making as the first-ever stream collab between holoPro and Niji. There were some hololive unicorns who disagreed with this because Altare “is a Holostar, not hololive,” disregarding the fact that Holostars is under Hololive Productions AND Cover Corp. Sorry not sorry, but go seethe and cry then touch some grass.

Because of that event, no more collab boundaries between holoPro and Niji on the EN side, and anyone can collab whenever as they please. The hopes of seeing Selen and Ollie had finally come to fruition. Not only that, Selen also had a chance to collab with other holoPro talents aside from Ollie, which also includes the Tempus boys (Axel, Dez, and later on, with Altare in VSaikyo). However, it wasn’t until the VSaikyo 2023 arc, where Axel, Selen, and Altare formed TSB, that I finally started to pay more attention to her.

She was like… a bundle of fun. I don’t know if those are the right words to describe her. She’s got the most infectious laugh ever. I end up laughing when she laughs, even at times that I didn’t understand the joke. After that, I’ve followed her on Twitter, followed her Youtube channel, tried to watch some of her streams when I have the time, but most of the time, I do check out her Twitter.

I got super hyped with the first-ever TSB Apex Custom Tournament and even her Christmas cover that we’ll never see again (?). But before all that, I did notice a lot of issues she’s been tweeting, such as events and activities that she wants to plan but couldn’t even get permissions for. But with all these things she’s got plans for, it’s easy to determine how dedicated she was with her work and with her fans.

When NijiEN privated her cover on Christmas Day, of all days, I knew immediately that something was wrong. When she tweeted, encouraging her fans to re-upload whenever, I also knew then that she was pretty much giving up and signs of a future graduation was eminent. At that time, I was having speculations that Selen wasn’t given enough credit, let alone being praised for all her achievements and efforts that I even had some speculations that there may be some internal conflicts going on between her, management, and dare I say it, other fellow livers with her.

My thoughts about NijiEN/Anycolor

“Support the talent, not the company” has always been my personal motto when it comes to joining fandoms.

Even until now, I still don’t know anything about Anycolor and their methodologies in conducting their businesses. After seeing this whole termination with Selen, I don’t even want to know.

From my personal research in the past, Niji/Anycolor is a lot larger than holoPro/Cover in terms of the number of talents, assets, and other things. I don’t know exactly where they invest all their money other than the management of their livers and their group activities. I’ve seen a lot of complaints and hate towards Niji/Anycolor all over social media, and although I usually take a neutral stand because of my ignorance towards that company, I’m not having a positive outlook on that company after hearing Doki1 make her statement about the termination:

Also, listen to her here:

I’m staying away from the whole “witch hunt” that’s going on within the NijiEN fandom, now that they seem to be pointing fingers towards other livers who may have bullied Selen/Doki into making an attempt that sent her to the hospital. Honestly, it’s wrong to point fingers in the first place anyway. However, we can all conclude that NijiEN/Anycolor’s actions are downright unprofessional, disrespectful, and infuriating.

What’s next?

Selen returned to her past life persona, Dokibird. If you still want to support her, please follow her channel. Her twitter also.

I know that I mentioned in the past that I won’t be following past life/personal accounts of former talents because it wouldn’t be the same. However, in the case of Dez and Ves from last year, they chose to leave and choose their own paths as indie streamers/vTubers. It just didn’t have the same vibe imo, which is why I’m not following them.

But with Selen, her situation is different. She tried all she can to make her plans come true, tried to work with management fairly, and yet as a result, she gets fired unjustly right then and here without her knowing about it before hand. She gave me hope that Doki will give the same infectious vibes the way she did as Selen, and I truly believe her:

I’m going to end this post here and this will be the final time I will be talking about this horrible day. I know I only have a certain amount of time to watch my favorite vtubers, but I want to support her as much as I can.

Maybe one day, TSB will return, but I leave that for the three to decide.
